iPhone Photography Awards
IPPAWARDS has a documented record of publishing winning iPhone pictures. The 2027 call is open, with paid bundles and an important restriction on desktop editing; its reward package is not yet fully specified.
Our assessment · Worth considering
A visible mobile-photography award, but enter for recognition while top prizes remain unannounced.
Our editorial judgement: worth considering for a small edit of photographs already on your iPhone. The format rewards observation with an everyday camera, and selected work has attracted specialist press coverage. We would keep spending modest: unannounced top prizes and unspecified precious-metal bar sizes do not support a financial-return argument. A larger bundle is not automatically the better purchase. [1][5]
A good fit for
- Photographers making distinctive work on an iPhone or iPad, without relying on a desktop editing workflow. [1]

What you will actually pay
Entry costs, explained.
US$9.50 for one entry; bundles range from US$15.50 for three to US$150.50 for fifty.
| Entry route | Cost | Who and what it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Small bundles | US$9.50 / US$15.50 / US$25.50 | One, three or five entries respectively. [1] |
| Larger bundles | US$55.50 / US$65.50 / US$75.50 | Ten, fifteen or twenty entries respectively. [1] |
| Largest listed bundles | US$95.50 / US$150.50 | Twenty-five or fifty entries respectively. [1] |
No free route is listed. The advertised per-image price does not fall at every step: ten costs more per image than five, and twenty-five more than twenty. Choose the smallest useful edit, check the checkout total, and do not assume the largest adjacent pack provides the best unit price. [1]
Fees are charged in US dollars. The terms restrict refunds and allow fee changes, so save the price and conditions applying when you enter. [2]
A device constraint, with a broad visual brief
Established in 2007, IPPAWARDS presents itself as an annual platform for photographic vision using Apple mobile devices. Its categories span architecture, portraits, nature, everyday life and abstraction. Our view is that the useful constraint is working with a camera you carry: access, timing and visual decisions can matter more than buying new equipment. [3]
The organiser says its panel includes photography professionals, curators, designers and creative directors, assessing originality, composition, artistic merit and emotional impact. The reviewed pages do not name the 2027 judges, which limits how precisely an entrant can assess the panel. That is a reason to avoid inflated career claims, even though the award has an established results archive. [3]
Past winners have reached specialist publications
Australian Photography covered the 2026 results, showing Robyn Jensen’s volcanic eruption as the overall winning picture and identifying an iPhone 15 Pro as the camera. It also discussed Gellert Gombai’s photograph made on the much older iPhone X and Anthony Ginns’s landscape-category win. This is concrete external attention to the photographs, and a useful reminder that an older device does not automatically rule out success. [5]
That history makes the award more persuasive than an online badge with no visible afterlife. It does not tell us how many visitors an individual category winner receives or whether a place generates paid work. We would see publication as a welcome possibility and the editing exercise as part of the value, rather than forecast a measurable business return. [5][3]
Do not attach an invented cash value
The entry page leaves the top three winners’ prizes to a later announcement. It lists gold bars for category first places and platinum bars for second and third, but gives no weights; equivalent-value substitutions are allowed. Certificates and an online winners gallery are specified. No cash award can presently be confirmed from this package. [1]
The editing route is unusually restrictive
Entries are worldwide and must originate on an iPhone or iPad. Personal social-media posting is allowed, but other prior publication is excluded. Desktop image-processing software is prohibited; iOS apps and add-on lenses are permitted. Originals may be requested. No capture-date cutoff is stated. [1]
The terms require original authorship, necessary third-party permissions, and guardian consent for under-18s. They also prohibit identifying watermarks or signatures. Before paying, distinguish an untouched camera original from the exported version you intend to submit; preserve both so the device origin can be demonstrated. [2]
Competition publicity extends to submitted images
Copyright remains with the photographer. Entry grants a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence for competition-related reproduction, exhibitions, publications and marketing, including media-sponsor publication. Credit is required. The scope covers submitted pictures, not only winners, and no licence end date is given. We consider the stated purpose reasonably focused, but photographers offering exclusive publication rights elsewhere should reconcile the agreements first. [2]
The 2027 deadline is confirmed, the full reward is not
The 20th-edition call closes on 31 March 2027. Enter through the official competition page after reviewing the bundle prices and rules. The Series category uses three images. We have not inferred a closing time or time zone where the published call gives only a date. [4][1]
A useful pre-entry edit asks whether each picture succeeds without the story of how difficult it was to take. Compare the winners archive, remove weaker variations, then confirm that the selected files satisfy the publication and editing restrictions. If the eventual top-prize package is central to your decision, wait for its official announcement before spending. [4][2]
Details still worth checking.
The size and monetary value of the metal bars, the top-three prize package and the names of the 2027 judges are not established by the reviewed official pages. This recommendation rests on the documented publishing record and a modest entry cost, not on an assumed equipment or cash prize. [1][3]
