Fotofestiwal Open Program
The current successor to Fotofestiwal's Grand Prix listing is the Open Program. Its 2026 call selected six projects for Łódź exhibitions, with a €1,000 artist fee and separately capped production and travel support.
Our assessment · Recommended for the right photographer
A modest entry cost for a substantial festival exhibition and an artist fee.
This is a persuasive opportunity for photographers whose project is ready to become an exhibition. The artist fee and practical support make the benefit more concrete than a certificate or a vague exposure promise. We would still begin with a feasible display plan: how the sequence uses a room, what production it needs and whether you can meet any costs above the allowances. A compelling project does not have to be expensive to exhibit, but it should survive being seen beyond a laptop screen. [1][3]

What you will actually pay
Entry costs, explained.
€15 per project, maximum two; discretionary free entry available on a reasoned request.
| Entry route | Cost | Who and what it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Standard entry | €15 per project; maximum two (€30) | Worldwide, no age or theme limit; duos and collectives accepted. [2][3] |
| Fee waiver | Free if approved | Request with an explanation to the organiser; no automatic entitlement is stated. [2] |
The waiver matters for access, but an applicant should obtain its terms before relying on free submission. The listed production and travel sums are support for selected artists, not entry-fee refunds. [2][1]
The historical Grand Prix has become an Open Program
This record preserves the older Grand Prix identity while reviewing the verified 2026 Open Program. The official archive links previous Grand Prix winners to the present call. Six selected projects were scheduled for exhibition from 18–28 June 2026, working with Fotofestiwal's curators. [1]
The open format places no prescribed theme on an application. Our advice is to make the project intelligible on its own terms: what question it investigates, why these photographs belong together and what the viewer encounters in an exhibition. A collection of technically accomplished but unrelated pictures would give the curators less to develop. [3]
A festival with documented critical attention
Tímea Urbantsok's June 2026 report for The Eye of Photography describes four days of exhibitions and events in Łódź. It discusses works by Richard Barnes, Jaap Scheeren and Karolina Gembara, alongside the festival's mix of political reflection and visual experimentation. This is actual critical coverage of the host festival, not merely a republished call for entries. [4]
The article also describes conversations among artists, publishers, curators and visitors. That is useful context for the setting in which selected work appears. It does not establish a guaranteed audience for any one Open Program project. The organiser's claim of more than 20,000 viewers should be understood as its own festival-scale figure. [4][3]
The artist fee is separate from expenses
Each of six selected artists was offered €1,000, accommodation for the main opening weekend, up to €300 travel reimbursement and a €500 production budget. The Picter description calls the latter production or transportation support. We would plan against the cap and confirm how a particular exhibition allocates it. [1][3]
The terms additionally specify one Pismo magazine project receiving PLN8,000 net for a 2026 publication sequence. The platform mentions at least one FUTURES nomination from submitted work. These are separate selections, not benefits promised to every finalist. The main award's tax provision includes an additional benefit to cover the organiser's flat-rate withholding. [2][3]
For an overseas entrant, a capped travel contribution can leave a meaningful personal expense. We recommend comparing an achievable exhibition budget with the support before treating the artist fee as money wholly available for new work. [1]
Projects may come from an individual or a collective
The terms accept duos and collectives, but not curator-assembled group exhibitions. Work must belong to its submitting author or authors without conflicting third-party rights. No capture-date window is stated. The programme board preselects submissions before the appointed jury; reasons for decisions and feedback are not guaranteed. [2]
Later exhibition arrangements require their own agreement
The published terms authorise social-media slideshows of the six final projects and reserve exhibition arrangements for agreements with selected artists. They do not set out a blanket copyright transfer. We rate only the published entry-stage terms; the later display, reproduction and Pismo publication arrangements need reading when offered. [2]
Our practical recommendation is to keep a record of which files may be reproduced, the intended credit and any subject permissions. A modest submission fee should not distract from the more consequential agreement governing an actual exhibition. [2]
The 2026 call closed in the preceding year
Submissions opened on 1 September 2025 and closed on 15 October 2025. Results were scheduled for 1 December, ahead of the June 2026 festival. The official page now names six finalists, including Tommaso Protti, Eleonora Agostini and Mari Mäntynen. No next-edition deadline is assumed here. [1]
Applications used Picter, with one project per submission. The readable public call does not specify a universal image-file recipe, so use the actual future application fields when a new edition opens. We would prepare a concise project statement and a tight sequence, then check the form rather than borrow technical specifications from a different contest. [2][3]
Details still worth checking.
Exhibition contracts are settled with selected artists. The entry terms alone do not establish every later reproduction right or expense arrangement. A new call must be checked separately. [2]
