Deadline: December 14th, 2007

The competition is open to all photographers, both professional and amateur, of 16 years and over who live in the UK. The Urban Photographer of the Year will be the person who, in the eyes of the judges, captures iconic observation on the theme ‘CITIES AT WORK’.

The objective is to explore work life in the UK’s towns and cities during any single hour of a 24 hour day. There will be 24 prizes, one awarded for each hour and from these will be chosen the Urban Photographer of the Year and two runners up.

You can choose to photograph any UK town or city at work at any hour. For example a photograph could capture Oxford at work at 10am, Liverpool at work at 2am, Bristol at work at 9pm and so on. You can enter up to 24 separate photographs but only one for each hour. Please ensure you read the Rules.

Prizes (for Urban Photographer of the Year and two runners up)

WINNER

The winner who will be given the Title of CB Richard Ellis Urban Photographer of the Year, will be awarded a personal photographic safari in Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains for two people. This includes return flights, transfers, accommodation, guides, meals and permits. This is a special prize that will enable the winning photographer and one companion to sample the truly unique city of Marrakech, where the 1200 year old Medina has housed centuries of learning, trade and a fascinating range of cultural influences. The Jamaa el Fna’a is a designated world heritage site and the Koutubia Mosque is the visible centre of all activity in the city.

Following Marrakech there will also be the chance to travel to La Roserie Hotel in the middle of the High Atlas Mountains as well having the option of crossing the tallest mountains in North Africa to the Sahara beyond. You will be consulted on your itinerary prior to departure.

In addition to this magical journey (valued at approx £5,000) the winner will also have the opportunity to display their photographic skills in Digital Photographer Magazine, one of the UK’s leading photography magazines. The best images of the trip will be featured in an editorial article in 2008.

FIRST RUNNER UP

The first runner up wins a week one-on-one course at the International Academy of Professional Photography with Martin Grahame-Dunn, FMPA, FRSA, FSWPP, FBPPA, QEP, Hon.FMPA. Martin is a Past National President of the United Kingdom Master Photographers Association and has also been a Director of the Federation of European Professional Photographers (FEP). Based in his school close to Cordoba and Seville he will create a week of personal tuition based on your input. As probably the top photographic mentor in Europe and as a Past Chairman of the Admissions and Qualifications Board he is uniquely placed to support you in gaining that step closer to your next qualification or to simply focus on the discipline of your choice.
With great local connections Martin has hosted photographic trips into the old town of Cordoba. This includes return flights, transfers, accommodation, guides, meals and permits.

SECOND RUNNER UP

The second runner up will win a Wacom Cintiq 21 inch Graphics Panel. With its larger screen size of 21.3 inch, the flat drawing surface and the decreased distance between pen and display, the Cintiq 21UX let all previous Interactive Pen Displays pale in comparison. Experience a whole new meaning to on-screen work with the expanded Intuos3 technology. At the same time, the Cintig 21UX is the most efficient of all Interactive Pen Displays: It features ExpressKeys and Touch Strips on both sides of the display, to accommodate the needs of both left- and right-handers equally. The Cintiq 21UX comes together with the Cintiq Grip Pen, the unique Cintiq stand that enables you to rotate the display by 360° (if laying) and to tilt it by 10-60° as well as a separate pen stand and the required DVI and VGA graphics card adaptors.
